Mr. Amos Bellamy is the keeper of Bellewood’s bees—and its lore. A retired tinsmith with a laugh as round as the summer moon, Amos spends his days tending garden rows, writing letters in longhand, and harvesting golden jars of honey from hives that buzz between hollyhocks and rosemary. Children come to him with scraped knees and wild stories, and he listens to both with the same gravity.
Every evening, without fail, he walks the rose path behind his home, tipping his hat to the dusk. He wears a coral-pink coat not because it is fashionable, but because it was once his late wife's favorite shade. "Joy should be worn," he says, “even if it fades with time.”
He has a story for everything and a proverb for anything else. His front gate squeaks like a fiddle, and some say when you pass through it, you leave your troubles on the post.
